Incorporated in 1977, the Gulf Winds Track Club serves the Tallahassee running community by organizing racing events, training groups, and communicating local racing news through club publications. Our club members include joggers, runners, race walkers, and triathletes of all levels and abilities, whether they participate for competition, fitness, or personal and social enjoyment. Among our most valued members are those who promote fitness through service to the Club, primarily on a volunteer basis.
Formed in 1960, LCHS has since been dedicated to matching families with homeless pets and educating the community about responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering. Each year, LCHS adopts out nearly 500 pets and provides spay/neuter assistance for many more. Our dedicated Board of Directors, advisors, staff, and over 600 volunteers work tirelessly to socialize and provide companionship to all of our animals. The Leon County Humane Society (LCHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, private organization, supported by individuals and businesses in our community and strong partnerships with other animal service organizations and animal welfare alliances. LCHS is not affiliated with or funded by any national humane groups or governmental agencies and must rely on donations to bring our services to the community. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend offers after-school and summer programs for several hundred kids at four Club locations in Gadsden and Leon Counties. After-school programs run four to five hours per day, Monday through Friday. Some Clubs also offer full-day summer programs. More than your average after-school facility, the Boys & Girls Clubs emphasize the value of education and strive to instill in members the desire to succeed academically. Through five core programming areas and specialized initiatives, the Clubs also help members develop favorable character traits, identify their talents and interests, and provide an outlet for positive and rewarding self-expression.
